Sour Cherry Cake


Sour cherry cake makes the perfect treat for a beautiful spring day. The tartness of the cherries perfectly complements the sweet cake, and tastes great with a cup of coffee or topped with whipped cream. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do. It’s a family favorite.


Batter: Mix dry first - then add wet

  • 2 cups AP flour
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp Baking powder
  • 6 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract


  • 8 cups cherries
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice Mix well

Now Let’s Get Started:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Step #1: Combine and mix dry batter ingredients in a bowl
Step #2: Add in wet batter ingredients
Step #3: Put batter in 10’ cake pan
Step #4: Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees
Step #5: Mix topping ingredients well
Step #6: Pour topping over baked base
Step #7: Bake for 25-30 minutes or until test stick pulls clean at 350 degrees
